Hi, my name is Beth Hicks.  I am an integrative therapist and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.  Please see some of my specialist experience below and if you feel I am a good fit for you, feel free to read more about me below.

  • Integrative Counsellor (a counsellor who uses a myriad of modalities to best suit their client).
  • Specialist training in trauma-focused practice.
  • Specialist training and experience in counselling adults, both online and face to face.
  • Specialist training in working with survivors of sexual abuse.
  • Significant experience of counselling children and young people aged 11 and above.
  • Significant experience of teaching level three certificate in counselling and level four equivalent counselling diplomas.
  • Mental health mentor for students studying at university.
  • Significant experience of counselling young people who are in the care system.

Working as an Integrative therapist means, I do not believe that one size fits all, and that I tailor the type of therapy that I offer.  Therefore, the approach that I use is individual and dependant on the client I am working with. I integrate a range of therapy modalities which include Person Centred, Gestalt, Mindfulness Based CBT, and Attachment Theory.   I will guide you through the challenges you feel you are facing in your life, and help you begin to really get to know and understand yourself in a way that perhaps you haven’t been able to before.

Through my years of training and vast amount of experience of working as a counsellor, I believe I will be able to offer you a safe, empathic, and non-judgmental space. I have many years of experience working as both a counselling tutor, teaching level three certificate in counselling, and level four counselling diplomas, as well as working as a full-time counsellor.  I have worked as a counsellor in a music college, in a service providing counselling for survivors of sexual violence, in schools, both primary and secondary, and in my own private practice, as well as working as a specialist mental health mentor for students at university.

As well as an integrative approach to sessions, I can also provide trauma-focused work in which I have gained further training.  Trauma-focused work is a form of therapy that can help you recognise, understand and process how particular traumatic events in your life may have impacted you physically, emotionally, and psychologically. The purpose of trauma-focused therapy is to give you tools, techniques, skills, and strategies to help you cope with processing emotions and left-over traumatic responses that may be negatively impacting your day-to-day life.  As well as learning to implement various tools and techniques, the therapy will also give you the opportunity to begin to voice some of the challenges you feel you have faced because of the traumatic experiences you have been through in your life. By having a chance to talk this through in a safe and non-judgemental space, this will give you the chance to integrate the tools, techniques, and strategies I will teach you as you move forwards with your life. This type of therapy can be offered both online, and face to face, and can be tailored for both adults and children and young people over the age of 11.

As well as my additional study and interest in working with trauma, I have a vast amount of experience of working with young people and adolescence, which include counselling young people in the care system, and working as a school counsellor for over three years.  In addition to this, I have extensive experience and further training in working with survivors of sexual violence. This has included working with survivors of both present day and historical sexual violence.

I have experienced, first hand, what a significant difference counselling has made to my own life, and I truly believe counselling has the potential to change people’s lives in the most profound of ways. I am really looking forward to meeting you and beginning our work together. I am confident that the therapy I offer will bring positive changes to your life. Moreover, you will quite possibly be able to both understand and process feelings and experiences that have happened to you for the first time with newfound awareness and a fresh perspective that will help you to move forwards with your life.
